Gilcrest Manufacturing and sister business Stancold can trace their origins back to 1946. Kevin Gilham has been at the helm since 2001. We met Kevin for a coffee in February 2018 from which our relationship grew. Kevin was keen to leverage our experience to help best capture a number of exciting growth opportunities. We set about mapping where the business could go next, but also how we could help and support Kevin and his team on that journey.

Gilcrest Manufacturing is one of the longest established composite panel manufacturers in Europe. Gilcrest offers high end products such as Cleanroom and Aluminium Honeycomb Panels and specialises in providing bespoke solutions across many cores and finishes. This flexibility is what separates Gilcrest from any other panel manufacturers. Gilcrest are recent winners of Best Business in 2018 Bristol Post awards.

Our work started with a Strategy Review and Value Lab to help develop and articulate options for the future direction of the business. This covered short, medium and long term objectives across core areas of people, process and technology. We presented our findings and a number of options that setting out recommendations including a proposed delivery plan. Our appointment extended to supporting the team to implement the plan over a 12 month period. Our support included guiding the leadership to find the right structure and composition of the board in light of the new plan as well as mentoring and coaching in some specific areas.

    We ran our specialist one day Value Lab with the senior management team. We helped pinpoint where value resides in the business and therefore where to focus effort to maximise growth and enterprise value. In breaking down the elements of the business, management were able to better understand the key business drivers.

    With plentiful growth opportunities comes strategic decisions. We carefully took the team through a number of options each carefully tailored to low, medium and higher risk reward ratios. This allowed the team to select the appropriate way forward to satisfy both business and shareholder requirements.

    Our team managed and contributed to the delivery of the high level milestone plan and the actions arising from the Strategy Review and Value Lab. We facilitated the roll out of the new sales and marketing plan, chairing the monthly meetings and tracking the ownership and delivery of key elements. As well as mentoring and coaching in some specific areas.
