Rick Martignetti is a Funding Advisor at Bristol-based Shaw & Co. He is part of one of the largest corporate finance advisory teams in the South West. Below he provides a summary of his career, his current role and what he does in his spare time.

I joined Shaw & Co in September 2019 having built my corporate finance career over 25 years in companies including Nokia, Royal Bank of Scotland, National Australia Bank and Lloyds Financial Markets. I am an entrepreneurially focused corporate finance expert with a passion to help businesses to manage risk.

After graduating from the University of Derby with my ACCA level II, I started my career at Nokia where I implemented their Foreign Exchange (FX) strategy in conjunction with the Global Treasury centre. Whilst at Nokia I completed my ACCA qualification under their sponsorship.

I moved into senior risk roles at RBS, National Australia Bank and Lloyds Financial Markets where I advised SME and Large Corporate clients to hedge their market risks, determine their borrowing levels and foreign exchange requirements. I am a MAAT Accountant and CF30 Registered with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Over the last 20 years, I have advised on debt hedging instruments over £3bn+ in client debt portfolios and arranged over £5bn+ in client foreign currency hedging transactions.

At Shaw & Co, I advise clients in a range of sectors including Hospitality, Energy & Renewables, Engineering, FMCH, Healthcare, Human Capital, Leisure & Manufacturing. I have helped some great clients including Amber Energy, Ensilica and Dunton Environmental.

I prepare fully considered financing proposals for presentation to banks, challenger banks and alternative finance houses. The financing I help to secure is typically used for corporate transactions (which includes MBO’s, MBI’s and acquisitions), growth funding, working capital or refinancing of existing facilities”

When I’m not at Shaw & Co, I live in Bristol with my partner and 2 young boys. I’m a keen sports fan, particularly tennis and delighted the boys are showing the same level of interest! I’m also passionate about economics and the changing world we live in.
